The Sage team tasked me with designing and prototyping an advanced legal workspace to streamline workflows for lawyers and legal teams.
The objective was to integrate collaborative tools and AI-driven features to facilitate efficient legal processes. The platform aimed to address common pain points such as document management, reference organization, and drafting automation.
Collaborative Case Document Management
To enhance legal teams' productivity, I designed a collaborative case document management system inspired by Google Docs. This system allows real-time collaboration on legal documents with features tailored for seamless teamwork. Case-based document organization ensures that documents are grouped by case, making them easily accessible and manageable. Version control keeps track of document revisions, enabling users to restore previous versions when needed. Comment threads allow team members to leave feedback and suggestions, fostering discussions directly within the documents. To maintain security and control, users can set specific access permissions for editing, commenting, or viewing, ensuring sensitive legal data is protected.
Organized Reference Management
Managing references efficiently is critical for legal professionals, and this system provides a streamlined solution. Documents are grouped by case, allowing quick and intuitive access to all necessary materials. Version control tracks updates and changes, giving teams the flexibility to review and revert to earlier document versions when required. Built-in comment threads facilitate ongoing discussions and collaborative improvements. The ability to assign access permissions ensures that reference materials remain secure while being accessible to the right team members. This organization empowers legal teams to handle case evidence and references effectively, reducing time spent searching for critical information.
Automated Drafting and Proofreading
Automation features simplify and accelerate the drafting process for legal documents. Automated timelines are generated based on document content, providing a clear and organized overview of case developments. Drafting assistance leverages AI to create initial drafts, reducing the burden of repetitive writing tasks. Proofreading tools offer automated suggestions for grammatical accuracy and legal language consistency, ensuring high-quality outputs. Additionally, the system includes a similar case finder, which identifies and suggests related cases for reference, saving valuable time and improving case preparation. These automation tools empower legal professionals to focus on strategy and decision-making while minimizing routine tasks.
